AI product photography for Etsy starts from a rule most tool lists skip: Etsy wants original photos of the item the buyer receives, not renderings. The edit itself takes seconds. What eats the afternoon is the rest: a clean first image, three or four scenes, the right crop and size, a short video, and checking that the product still looks like the product. On 27 September 2026 we sent all of that to one agent in a single request and timed it.
- Whole listing set from one request: SayMaker Agent. One message produced a priced plan (6 steps, 335 credits), then five stills and a 1080p video from a single phone photo, in 15 minutes and four messages.
- Cheapest single background swap: Photoroom Pro, about $0.003 per AI background on the $12.99 monthly plan.
- Cheapest AI scene per image: Claid at $0.072 (Standard AI Photoshoot on the $9 plan).
- Styled scenes for a small catalog: Pebblely, $19 a month for 200 images.
- The rule that decides everything: the product in every Etsy photo has to be the real one. Edit around your own photo; do not let AI product photography redraw the item.

What Etsy allows in AI product photography (read 27 Sep 2026)
Etsy requires the photos of a physical product to be original photos of the actual item. The Listing Image Requirements (etsy.com/legal/policy/listing-image-requirements) say, in Etsy's words:
- Sellers must "use original photos of the actual product buyers will receive, not renderings or stock photos," with exceptions.
- "Computer-generated mockups may be used in additional listing images to showcase customization options – just make sure your first image is the real deal."
- "It is prohibited to use a photo of the blank product or a mockup with placeholder text."
Etsy's image help article adds the practical side. Etsy recommends listing photos of at least 2000 pixels in width and height, and says the first photo should be at least 635 pixels on each side "to avoid showing up lower in searches." The first photo "should be horizontal (landscape) or square," with enough border to be cropped to square, portrait and landscape thumbnails without losing part of the product.
Etsy's Creativity Standards (etsy.com/legal/creativity) cover a different question: "Sellers must disclose within their listing description if an item is created with the use of AI." That rule is about the item you sell, such as AI art prints, not about editing the photo of a candle you poured yourself.
What this means for AI product photography tools
The text only explicitly allows computer-generated images in one place: mockups in the additional slots that show customization options. Everything else has to show the actual product. So the safe kind of AI product photography edits around your photo (background, light, setting) and leaves the item alone. A generator that invents the product from a text prompt is the "rendering" Etsy excludes, and an edit that changes the product's shape or pattern is heading the same way. Check every result: in our test below, the AI redrew the candle's swirl and straightened its shape.

The print-on-demand exception for AI product photography
Etsy allows stock-photo mockups when an original design is printed onto a base item by a production partner, and for personalized or customized items. Even there, a blank product or placeholder text is not allowed.
Cost per image: 7 AI product photography tools compared
Every number below comes from the tool's own pricing page, read on 27 September 2026, at the monthly price unless marked. "Per AI image" divides the plan price by the most images that plan can make with its main scene feature.

Why cost per image hides the real AI product photography bill
The chart ranks single edits, and on single edits the specialist apps win: Photoroom's basic AI background is roughly a third of a cent. A shop pays in other ways too. Attempts you throw away cost the same as keepers, some features burn extra quota (Flair's instant mode counts four times), and a listing with scenes and a video usually means more than one app and more than one export.
Which AI product photography tool is best for Etsy sellers? The seven, ranked
SayMaker Agent: AI product photography for the whole listing set
You describe the job once: the photo, the scenes, the sizes, the video. Before anything runs, the agent shows a plan card with every step, its model and its credits, plus your balance. Cancel it and nothing is charged; confirm it and the steps run in order. The same credits cover images and video, so the photo set and the listing clip come out of one chat. Two tools we did not use in this test are also there: boxing an area so "everything outside your boxes stays exactly as it is," and an expand tool that extends a finished photo to a new shape such as 4:3 or 1:1.
SayMaker costs more per single edit than Photoroom or Claid. In exchange, one request covers the scene prompts, the model choice, the resolution, the video and the running order. It suits handmade and small-batch shops that list often and want product photography scenes plus a video without juggling three tools. Edits run on GPT Image 2.5, Nano Banana 2 and other image models; clips on Veo 3.1, Kling 3.0 and the rest of the video generator list.

Photoroom: best AI product photography for clean first photos
Photoroom's background remover, shadows, retouch and resize are "Core tools" that do not use credits on paid plans. That fits Etsy's first-image rule: you keep your real photo and clean up what is around it. The free plan is for testing only, since Photoroom's help center says you cannot use it commercially.
Claid: cheapest AI product photography scene per image
At 4 credits per Standard AI Photoshoot on the 500-credit plan, Claid comes out near seven cents a scene. Paid plans export up to 2K; 4K sits on higher tiers.
Pebblely: product photography by the image for a small catalog
Pebblely sells images, not credits:
- Lite: $9 a month for 30 images ($0.30 each)
- Basic: $19 a month for 200 images ($0.095 each)
- Pro: $39 a month for 500 images ($0.078 each)
That pricing suits a shop with a few hero products and many seasonal scenes.
Pixelcut: phone-first product photography cleanup
Pixelcut Pro includes 600 AI credits, 300 AI Backgrounds a day and 1,000 batch exports, with a commercial license listed on Pro and Business. It does not publish a per-image price for its AI scenes, so budget by the daily cap.
Flair: custom product models, priced highest per image
Flair's paid plans train custom models of your product (up to 8 standard ones on Pro+), and it charges for that: 80 generated images for $35 a month, with the company commercial license starting on Pro+. The toggle on Flair's pricing page defaults to annual billing, which is why you will see $26 quoted elsewhere.
Canva: product photography plus the rest of the listing
Canva's photo tools are thinner than the specialists', but it also makes size charts, care cards and banner graphics. Pro is US$144 a year; the free plan allows up to 20 AI uses.
Our AI product photography test: a full Etsy listing set from one request
We took a real phone photo posted by candle maker @mysticalmoldingco (instagram.com/p/DdyGGjPj37J) on Instagram: two marbled lattice candles on a balcony rail, a plant pot behind them, hard daylight. Clutter, reflections and a pattern that is easy to get wrong make it a hard input for AI product photography.
We sent one message to the SayMaker Agent: a clean first image on a plain background, three lifestyle scenes (living-room shelf, bathtub edge, bedside table with the candle lit), a square thumbnail, a 6-second video, stills at 2K, and "keep the candle exactly as it is." The account had no plan, so it ran one generation at a time and watermarked its stills, which is what a new sign-up sees.

What happened, step by step:
| Step | What we did | What the agent did | Credits |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Sent one message with the photo | Looked at the image, returned a 6-step plan in under a minute | 0 |
| 2 | Pressed confirm | Made the clean image and two scenes (64 to 83 seconds each), started the video, then put the last two stills on a second plan card | 255 |
| 3 | Confirmed the second card while the video rendered | Said the account runs one job at a time and the video was still going; nothing ran | 0 |
| 4 | Confirmed again | Made the bedside scene and the thumbnail | 80 |
| Total | 4 messages, 15 minutes end to end | 5 stills at 1536×2048 or larger, one 1920×1080 video with sound | 335 |
335 credits is about $3.13 at the Creator monthly rate and $1.40 at the Pro yearly rate. Three of the four messages were a single confirm.

The finished set is the grid at the top of this article.
Veo 3.1 made the clip from the original phone photo rather than from an edit, and it kept the rounded shape and the swirl closer to the real candle than the stills did. It is still generated footage, so check it against the item before it goes on a listing.
What AI product photography changed about the candle
The pink, white and black colors and the lattice texture survived every scene. Three things did not:
- Shape. The real candle is a rounded barrel. The edits made it closer to a straight cylinder.
- The marbling. The swirl pattern was redrawn, not copied. It looks like the same product line, not the same object.
- The wax. In the lit scenes the dark wax turned amber, which is plausible for a burning candle and wrong for this one.
For other product types, check the details buyers return things over:
- Jewellery: stone count and color, metal tone, chain length, clasp style.
- Clothing: print placement, color, seams, neckline and hem length.
- Anything with a label: every word still spelled the same.
Two size problems showed up. Our "square thumbnail" came back 1776×2368, a 3:4 image, because edits keep the source photo's shape. And our 2K stills measured 1536 pixels on the short side, under Etsy's 2000 × 2000 recommendation. Ask for 4K stills (60 credits each on GPT Image 2.5) and ask the agent to extend the first image to 4:3 or 1:1 with its expand tool.
AI product photography workflow for Etsy: five steps
-
Shoot the real item in daylight on a plain surface. A phone is enough. Shoot it wide enough to leave a border around the product.
-
Keep image one real. Remove the background or clean up the table, but do not generate the product.
-
Edit scenes around your photo for the other slots, and say what must not change. The prompt the agent wrote for our shelf scene is a usable template: "Commercial lifestyle product photography featuring the front cylindrical candle with the exact pink, white, and black marbled textured diamond pattern. The candle is styled on a cozy, warm wooden living-room shelf." Name the material, pattern and color you need kept, then the setting.

-
Compare every scene with the original for shape, pattern, label text and color. Reject anything a buyer would call a different product.
-
Export at 2000 pixels or more on both sides, make the first image landscape or square with the product centered, and set the crop with Etsy's thumbnail adjustment tool so search and shop views do not cut the item off.
If the listing also needs motion, the same photo can become a short clip in the same chat. Our guide to turning a product photo into a video ad covers which camera moves keep labels readable.
AI product photography FAQ for Etsy sellers
Can I use AI-generated product photos on Etsy?
Not as a substitute for photos of a physical product you sell. Etsy's image policy (read 27 Sep 2026) requires original photos of the actual item, not renderings, and only names computer-generated mockups for additional images that show customization options. Editing around your own photo is the safe route. Print-on-demand designs and personalized items have a stock-mockup exception.
Do I have to disclose AI-edited photos on Etsy?
Etsy's Creativity Standards require disclosure in the description when the item itself is created with AI. Editing the photo of an item you made is a different case, but the photo must still accurately show what the buyer gets.
What size should Etsy listing photos be?
Etsy recommends at least 2000 pixels in width and height, and says a first photo under 635 pixels on either side may show up lower in search. The first photo should be landscape or square.
Can I use Photoroom's free plan for my Etsy shop?
Photoroom's help center says the Free plan cannot be used commercially, so an Etsy shop needs Pro or above.
What is the best free AI product photography tool for Etsy?
None of the free plans we read is a complete answer. Photoroom Free excludes commercial use, SayMaker's free plan watermarks downloads and has no commercial license, and Flair's gives five images. Use free plans to choose, then pay for the one whose output you would list.
What is the cheapest AI product photography tool per image?
On list prices read 27 September 2026, Photoroom Pro's basic AI background works out near $0.003 per image and Claid's Standard AI Photoshoot near $0.072.
What's the fastest way to make a full set of Etsy listing photos with AI?
Describe the whole set in one request to an agent that plans before it spends. In our test the SayMaker Agent turned one phone photo into five stills and a 1080p video from four messages, three of them a confirm, for 335 credits.
Can I use AI mockups for print-on-demand listings?
Yes, within Etsy's production-partner exception: stock mockups can show an original design printed on a base item. A blank product or placeholder text is still prohibited.
